Tana L. Coates

Tana L. Coates graduated with Honors from University of Texas in Austin, Texas, with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism in 1981. She pursued a career in print journalism, television and radio, working as a weather anchor and on-air radio personality and news reporter for years in Colorado and Texas. Ms. Coates also worked in the Texas Legislature as an Administrative Assistant for the Chairman of the Mexican American Caucus prior to attending law school at the University of Houston Law Center in Houston, Texas. During law school and upon graduation from law school in 1991, Ms. Coates worked with her brother-in-law for 18 years prior to opening Coates & Coates LLP. Ms. Coates is the immediate past president of the Central Coast Trial Lawyers Association, and was honored with its "Trial Lawyer of the Year" award for 2008. Ms. Coates is an "AV" rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell.

Ms. Coates has practiced law her entire career on the Central Coast of California, and has been involved in trying to verdict and settling many multi-million dollar cases. Ms. Coates has served as a Judge Pro Tem for the Superior Court, she taught Advanced Civil Procedure for the Cal Poly Continuing Education Program for several years, and currently is a board member for the San Luis Obispo County Bar Board, and the Central Coast Trial Lawyers Association. She has been a speaker at numerous seminars involving personal injury law, and participates as a panel member for "What's New in Tort and Trial?" an annual, state-wide presentation of all published cases in the previous calendar year.

Ms. Coates is a member of the San Luis Obispo County Women Lawyer's Association, the Central Coast Trial Lawyers Association, and the Consumer Attorneys of California. She is licensed to practice law in the State of California, and she is also licensed to practice law in the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
